Now that you know the best champions for LoL, get the best champions for Teamfight Tactics with our TFT tier list or Wild Rift with our Wild Rift tier list.

We also have a best decks tier list for LoR and an agent tier list for Valorant.

Methodology TLDR:

  • Our first tier list aimed at lower ELO, specifically Bronze up to high Plat/low Diamond. Our second tier list is for high ELO, aimed at Diamond 2 and above.
  • Our experts curate these picks and are an indicator of the champion’s inherent strength when played at the highest level. For many of the user base, this information isn’t super relevant for their games but provides invaluable insight into the game itself.

Let’s say you’re debating between learning and climbing with Jax (A-tier | Simple) or Rengar (A-tier | Severe) – you’re going to want to go with Jax. Why? This is because Jax has a lower skill floor and would require less games to play at an A-Tier level in solo Queue. If you tried to pick up Rengar, you wouldn’t get the full value of A-tier until after about 15 matches of practice whereas with Jax, you would get that full 15 every time you play him.

Expert pick commentary

To see all the explanations for our expert picks and more, head to our tier list feature!

LoL Tier List feature example

Top – Kayle

  • Kayle is a machine right now and winning a ton of games across every single rank. She is one of the strongest scaling champions in the game, and once she hits level 16 she starts melting through entire teams like nothing you’ve ever seen!
  • If you enjoy consistent scaling 1v9 monsters, Kayle is the pick for you this patch!

Jungle – Brand

  • Brand is still proving to be one of the best flex picks you can play this season, boasting fantastic win rates in various different roles, but the jungle is still where he’s most reliable.
  • Brand clears fast, he ganks easily and effectively, skirmishes like a beast with his Ultimate and AoE damage and scales super well too, all making him the perfect pick into all sorts of team comps!

Mid – Diana

  • Diana is popping off in the mid lane right now after her buffs a few patches ago. She’s got solid early damage, strong trading power, waveclear and fantastic all-in potential too, and then one she gets out of the lane phase, her Ultimate can destroy entire teams in a matter of seconds!
  • Whether you stomp the lane phase or not, Diana is a seriously scary pick to play, so give her a go if you haven’t already!

Bottom – Kog’Maw

  • Kog’Maw is having the time of his life at the moment and winning more games than ever before.
  • Enchanters are everywhere right now with the likes of Lulu and Milio being fantastic options alongside Kog’Maw, making him tear through teams in seconds.
  • Kog is relatively vulnerable in the early game, but once he gets a few items he can easily put his teammates on his back and carry without too much trouble.

Support – Nami

  • Nami has shot back up into the S tier over recent patches and once again she’s proving just how versatile she can be.
  • Nami offers everything a support needs, utility, CC, buffs and boots and protection and all of which make her an amazing pick into any draft.
  • Alongside Lucian this duo bot lane combo is still super scary, so give it a go with your duo partner if you haven’t already!

Top – Camille

  • Camille has been one of the best top lane picks to play recently and especially so at higher ranks.
  • She’s got everything she needs to outplay her enemies against all the odds, with mobility, CC, burst, and of course her Ultimate allowing her to isolate and shut down enemy carries easily!
  • She still does have a few famously difficult matchups, but in the right games, she’s pretty much free LP!

Jungle – Nidalee

  • Nidalee remains one of the most powerful solo carry junglers to pick in high elo, with the best players knowing just how OP she can be in the right hands.
  • She is all about snowballing the early game with aggressive ganks and invades, and once she’s got a lead under her belt she can dive around the map, one shotting squishies with those spears and huge cougar bites too.
  • Nidalee is the definition of a high risk high reward jungler, so if that’s your thing, give her a go!

Mid – Akali

  • Akali is a seriously scary pick in high elo when players truly know how to exploit and abuse all of her strengths.
  • She’s got insane burst damage, fantastic mobility and such creative ways to outplay her enemies against the odds and come out on top even in the most unlikely of situations.
  • Akali snowballs extremely hard so if you’ve got what it takes, it’s time to pick her back up again!

Bottom – Draven

  • Draven is still an absolute machine in high elo with the best ADC players being able to stomp all sorts of games with him so far this season.
  • He recieved a minor buff this week to his Q’s damage, and for a champion who’s already been popping off in the right hands, he’s going to become that little bit more punishing to come up against.
  • Draven is ALL about those fine margins, if he gets the kills before he dies to cash in on his passive, all of a sudden he will snowball games insanely fast.

Support – Bard

  • Bard is one of the most creative playmaking supports in the game and is now back in the top tiers in high elo.
  • He might not be the most consistent support to play in 2v2’s in the early game, but his roaming power, his outplay potential and his ability to setup fights and ganks is just insane when being played by the right pilot.
  • Bard is also seriously fun to play, so give him a go and enjoy the LP!

Disclaimer #1: If a champion isn’t on our LoL Tier List, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t climb with them. You’ll just have to put in more effort to get similar results as our Optimal, Great, and Good choices for climbing.
Disclaimer #2: This list is meant to evaluate the champions that we believe are best for climbing Solo Queue. Although there can certainly be some overlap, we are NOT looking to name the champions that are the best in pro-play or organized, competitive 5-on-5. This is why champs that require a ton of team coordination such as Ryze, may not be included or ranked highly.

As always, we welcome all discussion and feedback.
